When she first arrived, I gave her a limeade. It just seemed like she would like it.

So, this morning reader, I was drinking my first cup of coffee in the living room, just watching the View or some other middle aged lady show, and I heard a bunch of laser beam sounds coming from my back yard. Suspicious, I gripped my coffee mug tightly and took a sip for strength before heading cautiously to the back of the house to confront whatever might await me there. As I grew nearer the windows that looked out on the backyard, before me unfolded a scene of smoke and bright lights, as if some tiny, crazy craft had just taken off. I was stunned and thought about calling for help, but then I thought, who should I call and what kind of help do I need exactly? Suddenly I heard an insistent "tap, tap, tap!" on the bottom of the sliding glass door, which I happened to be looking out of at the time into the already clearing smoke-filled yard. Slowly I looked down and saw the cutest little green face looking up at me. I'm not dumb, reader. I put the pieces together and figured out what had just happened. But I opened the sliding glass door and let her in anyway when I saw her sweet little punim.

While she somewhat gratefully accepted my limeade, she was exceedingly shy. She didn't seem to want to talk, and I'm not the type to force conversation, so I just sat in silence with her for a few short minutes. Eventually she revealed that there was an agenda for her visit. She was here to see Cordelia.

She said that she had traveled a long way to talk to her, that she was a distant family member and Cordelia knew she was coming. I got her the things she asked for.

Pen and Kitty notebook please.
Pen and Kitty notebook please.

And rounded up Cordelia, who was hanging out with the girls, as usual. I have to admit I remained in the room, assuring them both I couldn't hear (which they bought surprisingly easily) during what turned out to be somewhat of a serious interrogation that I think turned rather friendly rather quickly.

The interrogation begins.
The interrogation begins.

Marvel: "So, Data Collection Technician # 1200112119. You've been here a couple of months. You must have a vast amount of knowledge stored by this point. Where is the data you've collected on this planet so far?"

Divergence (Cordelia): "Right, the data... Well... You see, once you're on this planet, hey has she given you your new name yet?"

Marvel: "New name? Why would I need a new name? Actually, what is going on with your hair? Is that... green? How is that possible?"

Glorious green locks

Cordelia: "Yeah, I don't really go by Data Collector whatever anymore. My name's Cordelia now. She calls me Delia. It's like a nickname, plus it's easier. And the hair's a wig. She has a bunch of wigs for us to wear. She lets me wear all of 'em, because I'm basically the prettiest one. She tells me that all the time. I have a long peach wig. I look really gorgeous in it. She tells me that too."

Marvel: "Gorgeous? And who's we? Are there others here? Back home I work and live in a laboratory facility on a very small moon that rotates our planet. I'm the only one currently stationed there. I have one uniform. Honestly it could use a wash."

Cordelia: "Oh bummer. The human washes all my clothes. But yeah, there are other girls here. They're really nice. And the human is pretty nice too."

Careful notations...
Careful notations...

Marvel: "The human?"

Cordelia: "Uh... The one who takes care of us. She buys us clothes and wigs and milkshakes and jewelry and little shoes."

Marvel: "And limeade. She does seem nice. She gave me these clothes actually. And put my hair back on, it fell off during the landing."

Sisters....
Sisters....

Cordelia: "Yeah. That sounds like her."

Marvel: "So you completely forgot about your mission, the real reason you were even sent here by the planet Zbornak, and basically allowed yourself to become a spoiled pet of this human woman and you just accept her frivolous gifts and praise and socialize with the other girls here in this particular moment in spacetime without a care?"

Cordelia: "Yup."

Marvel: "So are there any positions available here? Do you think it's possible for another green girl to get in on this? Maybe more of an administrator? Perhaps a former... Pollination Technician..." She whispered.

Cordelia: "Oh no, don't worry about any probing you may have done in the past. You're already in. It's already happening to you. She put your wig on and gave you clothes, she gave you shoes and limeade. You're in. Part of the family. She probably already ordered you some new clothes of your own and is thinking up a new Earth name for you."

Marvel gulped. Because she's an alien she is highly telepathic, and she was broadcasting her thoughts without even realizing it. I could hear literally every word she was thinking. "Family sounds a bit intense, although I do enjoy praise and gifts. Maybe I'll just stay a bit longer than I had planned. Truth is, I stepped on the little button thingy Quork gave me to use to call for a ride home 15 seconds after I got here, I'm pretty sure it's broken and no one's scheduled to check on this sector for another 4,000 years. I guess I could get to work on fixing it, but that was really more Quork's forte than mine, and I don't have any teeny tiny tools with me. God knows I wouldn't miss that uniform. That big silver jumpsuit with the v neck and the little turtleneck underneath that's ALL we wore back home. I definitely like these cargo pants better, and this t shirt. It's certainly more customizable. I guess I'll stay and check this human out. She could be... agreeable."

She seems to have relaxed.
She seems to have relaxed.

And since that she's just been hanging out, watching murder shows with me and the rest of the family. She seems to have relaxed a bit. But building trust is going to take time, I can see. She caught on that she was sharing her thoughts and shut that down right quick, so now I have no idea what she's thinking anymore. She's obviously suspicious of me, and how can I ever know if she's given up on her mission? It's a delicate dance but we'll figure it out. Good thing she's so darn cute I don't mind giving her the benefit of the doubt.

Welcome to Earth, little green one.
